Buying for a team? VersionUp Studio – 1 key, 10 machines
You already have a versioning system. It’s called FINAL_v2_USE_THIS.
Duplicate the sequence. Rename the copy. Rename the original. Remember which one you’re supposed to be in. Drag the old one somewhere sensible. Do it again in an hour, on a deadline, with a client on the phone.
It works right up until the day it doesn’t — and the day it doesn’t, you’ve spent an afternoon cutting a version nobody will use, or you’ve overwritten the one they approved.
Nothing about that ritual is difficult. That’s rather the problem: it’s easy, so it gets skipped.

How VersionUp works
Press the panel. The project follows.
This is the real panel, not a picture of one. Press Version up, Approve or Project inside it – or the ☰ for settings – and watch the bins.

What it does
8 things it does. None of them stop to ask you anything.
No dialogs, no Save As, no typing the number yourself.
Version up a sequence – or 20
Select 20 sequences in the Project panel and it does all 20, each named against the current state of the project so a batch can't collide with itself.
Your bin structure is rebuilt inside the archive, not flattened – a 9x16 archived from a 9x16 bin lands in a 9x16 bin.
Hold Alt to branch an alternative instead of advancing – it's filed in its own bin and opened, so you carry on in it. Your original is never renamed or moved.
Hold Shift for a new major version when the brief changes – v03 becomes v04.1.
Version the project file, not just the cut
One press saves Job_v04.prproj as Job_v05.prproj and leaves you working in the new one – no Save As dialog, no typing the number.
The target filename is printed on the button before you press it, so you can see what you're about to get.
It tells you before you waste the hour
Open an old version by mistake and an amber banner says so, names the newer one, and offers to jump you there.
Every editor has spent an afternoon cutting v03 while v05 existed. That's the hour it just saved you.
Opened the wrong project file? It notices
Open Job_v02.prproj from your recent files while Job_v04.prproj sits in the same folder, and the same amber banner tells you – by name.
Show folder takes you straight to the newer file and puts its path on your clipboard. Until you switch, the Project button won't version the old one. Meant to? Hold Alt to branch from it on purpose.
Mark the cut the client signed off
One click moves a sequence into your APPROVED bin, colours it green and renames it _MASTER.
Approving an old version is allowed on purpose – clients sign off v03 while you're already on v05, and a tool that refuses to record that is a tool arguing with the job.
Names that write themselves
VersionUp reads your sequence's frame size, so a 1080x1920 and a 1920x1080 name themselves apart without you typing anything.
Bin names, label colours and the naming pattern are all yours to change – it has no opinion about your naming, only about keeping it consistent.
It remembers every version it made
Open the Versions list at the foot of the panel: every cut, newest first, with a green tick on the one the client signed off and the date it was approved. Click one to open it in the timeline.
A Project tab does the same for your project files, ALT branches included – click any row to show its folder.
Renamed something by hand? That row reads no record rather than guessing. It only claims the versions it made itself.
Dock it wherever it fits
Tall, wide or a thin strip beside the timeline – the panel reshapes itself, and squeezed right down it drops to a micro header so the buttons keep the space.
Hover before you press: rest on Version up and the panel shows the exact name it's about to write. Nothing happens until you click.

FAQ
What do I need to run it?
Premiere Pro 25.6 or newer, on Mac or Windows. Earlier versions can't run it – VersionUp uses Adobe's current plugin system (UXP), and there's no build that works on older releases. Check yours in Premiere Pro → About Premiere Pro. If you're below 25.6 and update later, your licence still works.
What happens after I pay?
Installer and licence key by email straight away – be up and running in 60 seconds.
How many machines can I use it on?
One key, two machines – a desktop and a laptop. Changing computer? Press Remove on the old one and the seat frees up straight away. No email required. Activation needs the internet once; after that it works offline.
Is there a licence for a team?
Yes – VersionUp Studio: one key, ten machines. Everyone in the edit suite activates the same key, and Remove frees a seat when someone leaves or changes computer. Choose Studio when you buy.
Need more than ten? Email me and I’ll set it up.
Will it mess up a project I'm already in the middle of?
It only touches sequences you point it at, and it never deletes anything. The most destructive thing it does is move a sequence into a bin, which Undo (Cmd-Z, or Ctrl-Z on Windows) reverses like any other edit. It never renames the sequence you are working in without telling you first – the panel shows the version it is about to write before you press anything.
Can I try it before I buy?
No – there is no trial or free mode. Without a licence key the buttons are greyed out and the panel does nothing. I would rather say that here than have you install it and find out.
Everything it does is shown on this page. If you’re not sure it fits the way you work, email me before you buy and I’ll tell you straight whether it will help.
There are free versioning plugins. Why pay for this one?
If all you need is the number going up by one, a free plugin will do that, and you should use it. VersionUp is for the job around the number.
It keeps you in the sequence you’re cutting and files the old one away in a copy of your own bin structure, so the project stays tidy for the whole job. It marks the cut the client signed off. It does twenty sequences, or a whole bin, in one press. It warns you when you’ve opened an old sequence or an old project file. And it remembers every version it made, right in the panel.
It’s also built on Adobe’s current plugin system for Premiere, not the older one Adobe has announced it is phasing out – so it’s made for where Premiere is going, and there’s a person on the other end of the feedback button.
What's changed in the latest version?
Release notes live on GitHub, and the panel tells you when a new version is out.
Who do I ask if something goes wrong?
Start with the troubleshooting section of the guide – most fixes are there. Still stuck? Email support@nkcourses.co.uk – I am one person, so it may take a day, but it will be me answering.
Not answered here? The VersionUp help & documentation guide walks through every button, setting and fix.
